Business Activities
A global network spread out over the world allows us to provide a stable supply of high-quality timber. As a leading timber and building materials trading company in Japan, we are pursuing a broad range of operations, from procurement to manufacturing to logistics.
In response to worsening environmental problems and heightened demand for housing and building materials the world over, we are engaging in a number of sustainable businesses overseas- in Asia, North America, Oceania and other regions- that make use of the special properties of trees and wood.
With our custom-built wooden housing brand, Sumitomo Forestry Home houses, we aim to provide every customer with their ideal home. By taking advantage of the special attractiveness of wood, we provide comfortable homes that are environmentally friendly and can be lived in for several generations.
Backed by the expertise that we have developed in our businesses that take advantage of the properties of trees and wood, we have entered the real estate business. Currently we are active in wide-ranging operations encompassing everything from creating high-value property and adding value to existing customer properties to engaging in property development that blends in with the natural environment.
We are implementing the planned management of broad tracts of company-owned forests in Japan, based on the principle of "sustainable forestry" whereby trees are planted, forests are cultivated, the resulting wood is utilized as a resource, and the harvested areas are replanted. As well as being involved in the supply of timber, we are also engaged in numerous other businesses to help find solutions to environmental problems.
